Conversion moves an existing segment from the old editor to the upgraded editor, where customer selection conditions form a tree. There is no need to create a replacement segment: the same segment is converted, retaining its name, symbolic code and type — static or dynamic.
Segments can be converted individually from their detail pages or in bulk from the segment list.
Before conversion
Important!
Conversion cannot be undone: a converted segment cannot be returned to the old format. Some conditions change or are removed during conversion, so the resulting customer selection may differ.
Permission to edit segments is required. Go to Marketing → Segments. To find segments in the old format, set the “Segment version” filter to “Old”.
Before starting, review the segment's conditions and the changes made during conversion. If conditions need to be edited in the old segment, save those changes before converting it.
Converting a single segment
- Open the old segment's detail page.
- Click “Convert to upgraded segment” at the bottom of the page.
- If conversion affects conditions listed under Which conditions will change, a warning opens. It lists the changes that apply to this particular segment. Review them and confirm conversion. To leave the segment unchanged, cancel the operation.
If there are no warnings for the segment, conversion proceeds without an additional confirmation window. After successful conversion, the same segment opens in the upgraded editor.
Check the converted condition tree. For configuration principles, see Segmentation mechanism.
Converting old segments from the list
- Open Marketing → Segments.
- Click “Convert old segments” above the list.
- Read the warning and confirm conversion.
The bulk conversion window lists all possible changes. This is a general list: not every warning necessarily applies to every segment.
Important!
Bulk conversion processes the system's old segments, including those outside the current page or filtered list. To convert one segment, use the button on its detail page.
The message Conversion of old segments has been started appears after the operation starts. Processing runs in the background. Some segments may remain in the old format if their conditions do not support conversion yet.
Which conditions will change
Sources and UTM tags
The old “Sources” filter in the customer data filter group checks UTM tags — parameters identifying the traffic source — for both the customer and their orders. After conversion, it only checks the customer's UTM tags. Order tags no longer take part in this condition.
To include order tags in the selection, add an “Orders” group to the tree with the “Exists” option, then add a “UTM tags” condition with the required parameters inside that group. Conditions for the customer's UTM tags belong at the “Customers” level.
Choose the operator between these conditions according to the required logic:
- OR — matches customers who have the required tag either on their own record or on at least one order.
- AND — the tag must be present on both the customer record and at least one of their orders.
Adding an “Orders” group alone does not restore all the previous logic. Check the tag parameters and the operators between conditions.
Multiple values in the Sources condition
Values in the old “Sources” filter could be combined with AND. After conversion, the transferred values are combined only with OR.
If the previous selection required several values to match simultaneously, configure that condition again in the tree. The previous AND combination is not preserved automatically.
Included and excluded values combined with OR
If a single criterion contains both included and excluded values combined with OR, conversion removes the included values. The excluded values remain.
For example, the “Stores” criterion includes “Store A” and excludes “Store B”, with OR selected between them. After conversion, the exclusion of “Store B” remains, while the included value “Store A” is removed.
This applies to mixed values within one criterion using OR. It does not mean that conversion removes all inclusion conditions from the segment.
Deleted custom fields
If a criterion refers to a custom field that no longer exists in the system, that criterion is removed during conversion. The deleted field's value is not transferred to another condition automatically.
After conversion, check whether conditions using existing fields are needed in place of the removed criteria.
Number of viewed products
The “Number of viewed products” criterion is removed during conversion. Its limit no longer affects customer selection.
Communication actions
Old communication action criteria retain the selected status, such as “Delivered”. Quantity and percentage limits are removed. This applies to conditions for email, SMS and templates sent in chats.
For example, a condition requiring between 30% and 73% of emails to be delivered will no longer check that percentage after conversion. Only the “Delivered” status condition remains.
To select customers by the number of delivered emails, configure this condition in the upgraded editor:
- Under “Customers”, add an “Email communications” group with the “Exists” option.
- Within that group, set “Status” — “equals” — “Delivered”.
- For the same group, set “Number of Emails”, for example “from” —
5.
This selects customers who have received at least five delivered emails. It checks a quantity and does not replace the previous percentage range. If conversion has already transferred the required communication group and status, add the quantity condition to that group.
Checking the result
When bulk conversion finishes, the user who started it receives a notification with a link to the action log. For segments converted in bulk with the changes described above, log entries describe the changes and link to the segment.
To find these entries manually, open Settings → Logs → Action log. Set the “Record type” filter to “Segments”, specify a date if needed, and click “Apply”. For more information, see Action log.
Follow the link in the log entry, check the condition tree and adjust it if necessary. For individual conversion, check the result directly on the segment page that opens.
Use the “Segment version” filter in the segment list: converted segments have the “Upgraded” version. Also check which segments still have the “Old” version.
If a segment was not converted
Not every combination of old conditions can be converted automatically. Such segments may remain in the old format after bulk processing. The conversion button is not displayed on a segment's detail page if conversion is unavailable for that segment.
The button may also be absent because of missing editing permissions or because the segment is locked for editing. Segments that already use the upgraded format do not need to be converted again.
