To create a new mailing, click on the "New mailing" button at the top right of the page. It is important to decide to whom we will send our message. When creating a mailing, you can select one or several previously created segments, by which messages will be sent. If no segment is selected, the mailing will be carried out across the entire customer base.
After selecting the target segments, their name, type and coverage are displayed. The coverage shows the total number of customers in the selected segments.
A red number is displayed next to the “Target segments” heading. This is the total number of customers for the selected segments. The segment coverage and the total number of target customers may differ due to the fact that customers in the selected segment may be unsubscribed, they do not have an email address, or they did not pass validation of contact information.
Next to the ”Customer segment” heading, the total number of customers to which the mailing will be sent is displayed. The total number is calculated taking into account the excluded segments and the specifics of the formation of target segments described above. Here is the formula for calculating the total number of customers for which the mailing will be carried out: "Target segments" - "Excluded segments" = "Customer segment"
.
In the header of the selected segments there is a switch named "All / Any of". This is responsible for sending messages to customers from all selected segments at the same time (switch in the "All" position) or in any of the selected (switch in the "Any of" position).
For example, two target segments are selected: the first contains customers who made a purchase in the winter, and the second contains customers who made a purchase in the summer. If you select both segments and set the switch to the "All" position, then the mailing will include customers who made purchases both in winter and summer. If you set the switch to the "Any of" position, then the mailing will include customers who made purchases in winter or summer, or both in winter and summer.
How to exclude customers from a mailing?
The "Excluded segments" block contains the list of segments to be excluded from the mailing. Customers from excluded segments do not participate in the mailing and messages will not be sent to them. This is useful, for example, if you need to send messages to the entire base, except for customers with a small average order value.
When you select a segment that you want to exclude from the mailing, a red number is displayed next to the heading - this is the total number of customers that intersect with customers from the selected target segments and who will be excluded from the mailing. The number of blocked customers is also displayed in the line with the selected segment, next to the "Segment coverage" indicator.
If the segments have not been selected, the mailing is sent to all customers in the system who have successfully passed validation of contact information and who have subscribed to system emails.
Customer duplicates are also taken into account when an email is sent. For example, the database contains several customers with the same phone number or email address. In order to avoid message duplicates, we implemented a mechanic that filters out duplicates by choosing a priority customer based on the number of orders or the number of entries in the customer's history (the greater the number of orders/entries, the higher the priority).
For each missed duplicate, information is recorded in the action log where the customer to whom the message was sent the mailing is shown.
